  1. Colors

SUPER interesting and almost delightful. The clip above is New York City choristers helping record different audible representation of colors for the Radiolab “Colors” podcast.

All the Radiolab podcasts are great listens, but the “Colors” episode was really amazingly put together. I mean — how do you describe color and how it works when you can only explain it through an audio sound file?! They come up with a wonderful solution. Thanks to gounie for the recommend!

Click to listen to the entire Colors Radiolab podcast!

    Podcast Description:
Our world is saturated in color, from soft hues to violent stains. How does something so intangible pack such a visceral punch? This hour, in the name of science and poetry, Jad and Robert tear the rainbow to pieces.

To what extent is color a physical thing in the physical world, and to what extent is it created in our minds? We start with Sir Isaac Newton, who was so eager to solve this very mystery, he stuck a knife in his eye to pinpoint the answer.

Then, we meet a sea creature that sees a rainbow way beyond anything humans can experience, and we track down a woman who we’re pretty sure can see thousands (maybe even millions) more colors than the rest of us. And we end with an age-old question, that, it turns out, never even occurred to most humans until very recently: why is the sky blue?

  2. Delicatessen

Now that we’re FINALLY set up shop in Atlanta (this time it is for real - it has been a 4 month journey… yay!) the one thing I am starting to miss from NYC are the “Delicatessens”. Or atleast how the food from these places permeates the city still today in most of all menus.

The video called “Appetite City: Delis” is a great little feature about the Delicatessen. It’s history, the name, the how and the why and now the what. Click here to watch the video

“The word ‘Delicatessen’ is almost synonymous with New York City, yet many don’t know where the word comes from or how the deli got its start in the Big Apple. Join host William Grimes as he uncovers the true origin of the New York City deli, speaks to food author Arthur Schwartz, and reveals the truth about how these once foreign and unusual delicacies from Eastern Europe became a staple of New York City life.”

Apparently there is a new deli in Atlanta which I will be checking out soon… once all the boxes are unpacked. Look at all that hash!

  5. So you’d like a discount? No problem!

Many wonderful customers often ask if they can get a deal or discount on ordering multiple Crankbunny goodies. It is a question I don’t mind being asked actually. I love a good saving myself - especially coupon codes because of their secret quality about them.

Getting a discount on your order**
I am going to phase out offering discounts through Etsy because of the fees / costs involved in listing items. Discounts will only be offered through my regular online store starting where I do not have these extra fees / costs that cut into the Crankbunny business.

By not having these extra fees and costs I can pass on the savings to the customer. I can also not feel like a total shmoe selling the cards and puppets I make with my own two hands for less than I should be be paid for as an artist. Also, the regular online store has wonderful perks in that it is easier to use and MUCH better organized (especially for those custom items).

So feel free to use the following coupon code KOKO at the regular Crankbunny Shop for 13% off any order! Also remember to sign up for the newsletter so you’ll be able to find out about other bigger value coupon codes that come up — holidays are coming up!

  6. Welp - I’m keeping this one in my quick access memory bank whenever life bums / stresses me out… because it is awesome .

This weekend I got a small little note from Annie with the photo above. She got herself a Miss Suzy inked on her body - and she looks gorgeous! I am truly flattered that one of my tattooed paper puppet dolls now has a permanent tattooed home on someone (there is a möbius strip of glory in that statement somewhere).

Very important note* Tattoo work is by Michelle Tarantelli at Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn, NY - a super great shop which I should prob stop by before I leave NYC in the winter.

    Hurricane Isaac & Shop Orders

Hurricane Isaac’s landfall is possibly expected to be Monday morning August 27th. In the event the storm causes power failure and flooding in South Florida because of the storm - all orders will be posted in the mail as soon as it is safe to do so.

I’ve gone through my share of hurricanes growing up in Florida so the storm isn’t a huge deal. It is though a matter of waiting to see where it goes (totally up to the storm) and dealing with the damage afterwards. Storm damage can effect shipping mail service with USPS. Planes and trucks will NOT travel through dangerous weather. Power outages do not allow packages to be processed. Please keep this in mind when placing an order - tis hurricane season.

Orders will be shipping from South Florida until Sept 5th. You can read all about my summer trip by clicking here or reading the lazy small letters below.

July & August : Crankbunny will be traveling down south!
These hands that are typing (the hands that also fold, cut, and lovingly make all the Crankbunny nifty cards and paper puppet dolls) spend the summers traveling down south. That time is used to take a rest, get my tan on, go fishing, be creative, work on new exciting things for the fall, listen to tons of reggae and Rush - so it is an important time. All of July and August orders will ship from Florida or Georgia or wherever my existence might take me. Most items will be stocked, but there are certain things that won’t be available until September because of traveling!

  8. Vacation-shacion-bacon

Welp, the Etsy shop is back open ‘cause I am back from my “vacation”.

Seriously, though - I never go on vacation (check my high ranked status at the Workoholics Union of North America). “Vacation” just means “other work.”

    Clockwork Angels

Closing down my shop was needed to finish up work on a very special project I got asked to do this summer. There are always tons of side projects going on - but this one was great because I got to work on another Rush tour. Rush will be touring with the new “Clockwork Angels” album this fall of 2012 / all of 2013 and again I was able to animate stage projections for some of their songs. I say “again” because this is my third tour animating for them. Each tour gets better and more crazier / beautiful so it is a real treat to animate their songs. Each tour and album always has such a wonderful theme and story. You’ll have to go see Rush live to see the animated projections — which really is the only way they should be experience!

Below is a clip from my “Witchhunt” intro for all the Moving Pictures animations on the last Time Machine tour! STAGE FIREBALLS RULE.

    Von Zos

ANOTHER side project going on is helping the fine folks at Von Zos produce some of their limited edition art press paper goods. Just recently they released an edition of David Cook paper Robot Skulls which I helped secretly / magically get together.

    image

The fairly large paper cut-out Robot Skulls are an edition of 35, signed especially by Mr.Cook himself. Catch one if you can / if they haven’t sold out yet!

There are a few other Von Zos goodies to come out soon that have some more Crankbunny stank on it. Make sure to sign up for the Von Zos newsletter, tweets, facebooks to know when they come out cause they handle those goodies (and are WAY more media savy / organized at that sort of stuff). Wurd on the street is the great Ms.Minka Sicklinger is up next!

Just a quick notice that the shop will be closed August 1st to 15th.
I will be taking two weeks off and will be unable to make / process any orders during that time period.

**All orders placed before August 1st will be shipped by August 1st.

**During that time I will be unable to take or process any wholesale orders.

The Crankbunny shops will be back open August 16th with new paper puppets, currently unavailable items (like that neato shadow puppet set!) and new goodies like Hula Lula above. She’s a mechanical hula paper puppet doll who wiggles and likes to play her ukulele!
